The gap has been bridged!
|When you last checked in, I’m sure you thought “yeah, he’ll never finish this project either!” Well, I’m almost done. :-p
I spent time the other day working on the left side unit, and finished up the middle span and most of the trim today. I have to say even with a couple of hindsight moments, they are looking as well as I’d hoped for. As I was putting on the front trim, I was wishing I had lined up the fronts of the shelves with the side boards instead of the back wall. Not doing that meant I needed to shim the front trim on several shelves. I also wonder why I felt the need to use a washer under the toggle bolt heads, almost none of them seated level so I’m probably going to remove them so the heads will go more flush.
At least with the left and middle rear supports, I was able to hit multiple studs, so no toggle bolts needed except on the left outside wall where there were no studs in the 11″ run.
I need to make another run to the home away from home and get one more 1×3 to trim the bottom shelves on the left and right. Also having the wife look at it, we agreed that the top run should be some form of crown molding just to set it off a little more.
Next up will be filling in all of the nail holes and gaps, then paint! The backs will be wall color, the shelves, sides, and trim will all be white.
On with the pics!
